Daily direction. Interlinked learning. Measurable testing. Mentor-led correction.
UMDA 2027 is The Study IAS's structured UPSC mentorship and preparation-management system designed to turn preparation from scattered effort into a guided, measurable and interconnected process.
It is built for complete beginners as well as repeat aspirants. Prior completion of General Studies is not assumed. The programme starts by organising what to study, why it matters, how it connects with the larger syllabus, how it will be tested and what should change when performance is weak.
The central idea: Preparation should not be a pile of separate classes, notes and tests. It should work as one connected system.
| Function | What It Means for the Student |
|---|---|
| PLAN | Daily Plan of Study and clear academic priorities so the student knows what to study, revise and practise. |
| CONNECT | General Studies is taught as an organic whole, linking static subjects, Current Affairs, PYQs, Prelims and Mains. |
| TEST | Preparation is measured through PYQ, sectional, combinational and full-length testing across Prelims and Mains. |
| CORRECT | Mentors use actual performance to diagnose weak areas and prescribe the next academic correction. |
UMDA therefore goes beyond a lecture batch, a standalone test series or generic mentorship. Learning, testing, revision, PYQs, Current Affairs and mentorship are designed to work together.
The Study Mock recreates the logic of the UPSC selection cycle so that weaknesses are exposed while there is still time to intervene.
UPSC rarely asks knowledge exactly as it was stored. UMDA therefore trains students to understand a topic inside a larger system rather than as an isolated chapter.
One issue may connect simultaneously with GS-I History, Society or Geography; GS-II Polity, Governance or International Relations; GS-III Economy, Environment or Science & Technology; GS-IV Ethics; Current Affairs; and PYQs.
The goal is not more content. The goal is enough conceptual clarity and enough connections to reason, eliminate, analyse and write even when the question is unfamiliar.
The test plan is deliberately layered. It begins with PYQ-led and sectional testing, expands through combinational tests and culminates in full-length papers.
| Stage | Tests | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| Prelims GS | 65 | 4,120 |
| Mains | 93 | 954 |
| CSAT | 10 | Separate from the GS test count |
Total GS tests across Prelims and Mains: 158. CSAT adds a separate 10-test layer.
| Test Type | Count | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| PYQ Tests | 20 | Decode UPSC demand and recurring themes. |
| Sectional Tests | 24 | Check whether the recently studied unit is actually usable. |
| Combinational Tests | 5 | Force retention and integration as more subjects accumulate. |
| Current Affairs Tests | 6 | Measure the ability to connect contemporary developments with GS. |
| Full GS Tests | 10 | Simulate complete-paper pressure, judgement and exam temperament. |
| Test Type | Count | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| PYQ Tests | 29 | Decode how UPSC frames themes and demands written application. |
| Sectional Tests | 40 | Develop topic and subject command through progressive writing. |
| Combinational Tests | 9 | Train multidimensional writing across connected subjects. |
| Full GS Tests | 15 | Build full-paper execution, time management and writing stamina. |
The 15 full Mains papers are structured as three complete Essay + GS Paper I + GS Paper II + GS Paper III + GS Paper IV cycles, giving students repeated exposure to near-complete Mains simulation.
In Prelims, the combinational layer progressively accumulates subjects - Polity + History + Geography + Economy + Environment + Science & Technology - so earlier learning cannot simply be forgotten when a new subject begins.
UMDA treats mentorship as an academic intervention. A mentor needs evidence before giving advice.
| Step | What Happens |
|---|---|
| MEASURE | Tests, submissions, accuracy and answer quality create evidence. |
| DIAGNOSE | Recurring weak areas and their causes are identified. |
| RECTIFY | Revision, method, priority or practice is changed. |
| REVIEW | The next performance cycle checks whether the correction worked. |
A mentor should be able to answer: What exactly is holding this student back - and what should change next?
Every three months, UMDA moves beyond ordinary revision and recreates the logic of the UPSC selection cycle.
Why it matters: aspirants often discover weaknesses only when the real examination exposes them. The Study Mock is designed to expose them earlier, while there is still time to intervene.
Exam temperament + revision checkpoint + mentor diagnosis.

Plan the work. Connect the syllabus. Test the learning. Correct from evidence.
UMDA 2027 is designed to make UPSC preparation structured enough to execute, connected enough to understand, measurable enough to diagnose and flexible enough to correct.
UPSC syllabus orientation, daily academic priorities and a structured Plan -> Learn -> Test -> Review -> Correct cycle.
Subject blocks are taught with deliberate connections across Polity, Governance, History, Geography, Economy, Environment, Science & Technology, Society, Ethics, Current Affairs and related UPSC themes.
PYQ tests and topic mapping are used to decode UPSC demand, recurring themes, question framing and the different ways the same knowledge appears in Prelims and Mains.
Target-based objective and descriptive practice measures whether daily learning has translated into retention, reasoning and written application.
Current Affairs with Manikant Sir and Interconnectivity & Thinking sessions connect contemporary developments with static GS, PYQs, examples and answer-writing dimensions.
65 GS tests comprising 20 PYQ, 24 Sectional, 5 Combinational, 6 Current Affairs and 10 Full GS tests, totalling 4,120 questions.
93 Mains tests comprising 29 PYQ, 40 Sectional, 9 Combinational and 15 Full GS papers, totalling 954 questions. The full-paper layer includes three complete Essay + GS I-IV cycles.
10 CSAT tests are provided as a separate testing layer in addition to the 158 GS tests across Prelims and Mains.
Performance is measured, recurring weaknesses are diagnosed, revision or practice methods are rectified and the next cycle is reviewed to see whether the intervention worked.
A quarterly UPSC-cycle simulation covering Prelims, cutoff, Mains, DAF, interview-stage exposure and mentor intervention.
Integrated GS + Prelims + Mains preparation continues through 20 February 2027. From 21 February 2027, the programme shifts to the Dronacharya-only Prelims-first phase focused on consolidation, daily execution, accuracy and exam temperament.
Students are trained to understand a topic in context, connect it across General Studies and Current Affairs, apply it to UPSC-style questions and express it in Mains-ready form.
Every academic block is tied to a plan, learning session, measurable application, review and specific correction. This prevents preparation from becoming a passive accumulation of classes and notes.
Difficulty grows by asking the student to retain more of the syllabus together. The progression begins by decoding UPSC demand, then tests individual units, then combines subjects and finally recreates full examination conditions.
Mentorship is evidence-led. Advice is based on test performance, submissions, accuracy and answer quality, and every intervention is reviewed against subsequent performance.
Yes. The UMDA 2027 structure explicitly allows complete beginners to enter the system. Prior GS preparation is not assumed. The programme begins by organising preparation through daily direction, conceptual learning, practice and testing.
No. Mentorship is one part of a larger preparation-management system. UMDA combines academic planning, General Studies learning, Current Affairs, PYQs, Prelims and Mains testing, revision checkpoints and mentor-led correction.
